(Markjamesmurphy.com)

MARKJAMESMURPHY.COM IS ONE YEAR OLD TODAY!
Thanks to anyone who has ever taken a look at the site. The year really flew by. On the internet, a year is a really long time though - kind of like dog years. I've watched the traffic grow over the past year, and I'm excited about the future. I'm going to keep it growing and see how far I can take it.. One thing about the web - there's never a lack of things going on.
Thanks again readers, you are awesome!

(Safeco Field)

I've made a resolution to get out more and have a lot more fun. So far I'm off to a great summer. After the thrill off seeing Todd and The New Cars on the 24th, I went to see the Seattle Mariners take on the Boston Red Sox the very next evening at Safeco Field. I enjoyed spending time with Russ, Reda and Kathryn. One of my photographs was a homer coming off the bat of Kenji Johjima. As I was showing it off to my friends, the very next batter hit another home run to almost the same place! Kat & I discovered the Bullpen Pub in the lower levels of Safeco, where you can peer through holes in the wall and see pitchers warming up by throwing pitches right at you. The bar was full of rowdy, drunken good-natured fans, some of whom I secretly recorded as they taunted Manny Ramirez in the outfield...

(Rundgren)

The New Cars! I had the awesomely fun experience of seeing these rock legends at the Tulalip Amphitheater with my friend Kathryn. It rained a bit, but the show was very special indeed. The margaritas did flow and the band rocked. And at the end, there was even a rainbow.

There were a few great musical surprises, too. Todd Rundgren (replacement for the absent Ric Ocasek) is legendary, and I heard that The New Cars were going to play some old Todd classics along with the Cars catalog. They did I Saw The Light, a classic number shown in the video below. But what really blew my mind was when they did Open My Eyes by The Nazz, a very early Todd band that was kind of like an American response to Cream and The Yardbirds. Unfortunately I did not capture it, as my battery had died. I do present to you, however, I Saw The Light...

Here's your chance to GET YOUR NAME IN ROLLING STONE and show Todd love:

(Hertzfeldt)

Rejected. Animator Don Hertzfeldt seemingly made these hilarious animations in 1999 as promotional spots for the Family Learning Channel, but they were all rejected.

In reality, there is no such channel, as he refuses to to commercial work:

"In public appearances, he often tells the story that he always wished he could just make a cheap, nonsensical commercial to give to the company intending to hire him, make off with their money, and see if the terrible cartoons would actually make it to air. Eventually this became the germ for Rejected's theme of a collection of cartoons so bad they were rejected by advertising agencies, leading to their creator's breakdown and, presumably, his demise.
Hertzfeldt has never accepted "real" commercial work and has stated numerous times on his website and in public appearances that he never will, as he feels they are "lies" and does not want to lie to his audience."

(The New Cars)

The New Cars are coming to a local venue, and I'm getting psyched. Todd Rundgren is a god to me, and everyone else in the band pretty much is, too. The very first concert I ever went to was The Cars at the Boston Garden in 1982 for the Shake It Up tour. Here are a couple of videos of The New Cars!
