(Camppy)

Camping in Index, WA made for a splendid weekend. This time I brought Kathryn and her two dogs Hazel and Rosy Bear. The weather was great and the bugs were less bitey. Kathryn did all the shopping and cooking. The dogs were in heaven. The Skykomish river was running lower than on our last trip, but the fish were still not around. I did get to take a chilly dip in the river. I also got a wild ride on a dune buggy/go kart contraption driven by a guy named Chris that we met. And on our way back, we toured the incredible Reptile Zoo in Monroe, where I stared down an alligator.

Chocolate Rain is a song by Tay Zonday, the newest viral superstar of the intertubes. He's a grad student who dabbles in music, and he put a video on YouTube that is setting the world on fire. Chocolate Rain is tailor-made for internet meme history, because it's so oddly compelling to watch and impossible to forget. In fact, I'm about ready to bore a hole in my skull to let it out. Tay Zonday is a lanky conundrum with the face of Janet Jackson, the sing-out-the-side-of-your-mouth grimace of Sammy Davis Junior, the youthful zeal of a 14 year old Karaoke singer and the most-jarringly-mismatched-voice-for-the-face of, well, anyone ever. He sounds like an unholy amalgam of Robert Goulet, Lou Rawls, James Earl Jones and that guy from Crash Test Dummies. The mental disconnect that happens when you first view it is exquisite - truly a WTF? moment. By the time your brain decides that he is, in fact, serious, he has repeated the phrase 'Chocolate Rain' dozens of times, a classic brainwashing technique that sets the hook in your mouth like a pro angler.

This hilarious viral ad by Tribal DDB is for the Philips Bodygroom, a new body hair removal device.

"The mockumentary is based on the early history of 'manscaping,' as modeled by some furry 1950s Coney Island guys. Narrated by 'Follicle' Phil Fontana, it tells the story of a character named Sack, who invented an unfortunate device known as the Tuft B-Gone. Hairy guys sprinted through the machine, and 'after the scabs fell off,' Phil says, 'we'd grab a broad and a cold beer and call it a day.'"

(Camping)

Index, Washington and the north fork of the Skykomish river was the site of the latest adventure in Camppy. Russ & I headed up a 25 mile stretch of road full of public campsites, only to find that the road was closed after just 5 miles, making most of the sites inaccessible. A rogue part of the river had completely destroyed the street! Fortunately we found a good site, the last one available before the roadblock, and spent a few days there exploring, fishing, partying with other campers and eating like kings.



We met Guitar Bob and Red Eye Rob, who were prepping for a nine-guitarist get together. They treated us to a live acoustic guitar set right there in the middle of nowhere.

(Lighthouse)

Mukilteo Lighthouse Park was our destination of choice for Sunday's day trip in Camppy. The doggies, Hazel and Rosie, behaved so well on our experimental trip the day before that we had no qualms about taking them on a much longer journey. We climbed atop a 100 year old lighthouse, shopped at souvenir stores and walked Hazel on the picturesque beach.
